American Document, a dance drama inspired by Martha Graham

Performances of American Document will take place on Friday, August 27 and Saturday, August 28 at the Mills Community House. Both performances begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at the Benzie Chamber of Commerce and Frankfort-Elberta Chamber of Commerce beginning August. 9. You may also reserve tickets by calling the Mills at 231-882-0591. Tickets are $15.00 for adult and $8.00 for youth.

This experimental dance work inc...orporated vaudevillian structures, folk rhythms, and spoken text to examine the conflict and the ever evolving questions; "What is America?" and "What is an American?" Director Gretchen Eichberger has adapted the nation's first ever civic version of the work. Inspired by Martha Graham's original work from 1938, it has been created and produced with the permission of the Martha Graham Center for Contemporary Dance.

Cast members include Holly Wren Spaulding and Tim Joseph as Interlocutors. Dancers include Hughthir White, Stephen Kelly, James Weston, Jamaica Weston, Brooke Bueby, and Gretchen Eichberger. Musician Rick Jones will also be featured.

Funding for this work has been awarded from the Michigan Council for Cultural Arts and Affairs and Northsky NonProfit Network with generous support by the Mills Community House. It is the keynote program for the Mills Community House's one hundredth anniversary.
